Vaginal warts treatment is easy, when you understand what causes warts. All warts are caused by a virus called the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV), which has over 80 different strains. Warts which occur in the genital region, are known as genital or venereal warts. These include anal warts, penis warts and vaginal warts. There are about 30 different strains of genital warts. HPV is so common these days that it affects 75% of sexually active men and woman in their lifetime. In fact, HPV affects more people in the US than any other sexually transmitted disease, including HIV. If you have vaginal warts, you are not alone!
Vaginal warts are extremely contagious. It is very common to contract the virus without actually developing vaginal warts. Most people don't even realise that they have HPV. This means that many people are carriers of the virus and are unaware that they may pass it on to other people who may develop genital warts. There have been many studies done on the link between genital warts and cancer. A small number of genital wart strains are linked to cancer of the cervix, vagina, vulva, penis, and anus. The longer the HPV infection remains present, the higher the risk of cancer becomes. It is therefore extremely important to seek treatment, as soon as warts develop.
